ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
Volunteers will be actively embedded in the multiethnic and stimulating environment of Bologna, so they can act as protagonists thus making the most of the unique opportunity of the ESC. This close contact with the local community and their active participation in volunteering, informative and formative activities will widely enhance the growing possibility for the volunteers. Bologna is very open to youths and it offers a lot in terms of personal growth and cultural activities. The volunteers will be actively embedded in this multiethnic and stimulating environment by exploiting the activities and the network of contacts of Centro Sociale Montanari. The Montanari Centre promote and stimulate intergenerational and intercultural solidarity in order to fight social isolation.
They are promoting intergenerational integration and stimulate participation to prove the usefulness of mutual exchanges between generations by involving individuals of different ages in their daily activities. The Montanari Centre promotes intercultural integration thus representing a true cultural, entertainment, research and educational output from which the entire local community will benefit. Volunteers will be organizing and implementing a variety of adapted cultural, entertainment, socializing and exchange activities to maintain the elderly people’s sensorial, linguistic, creative, intellectual and DIY skills and capabilities active in an open-minded and inclusive environment.
Some of the examples of the activities of Centro Montanari are: festa di primavera (finger food festival), concerts, theater shows, travel presentations, poem nights, dances shows, cooking classes together, gym for seniors etc. In general in Montanari there are some seniors volunteering and the participants of the activities are also mostly seniors. They offer opportunities for volunteers to organize language classes or develop their own projects based on their personal skills and abilities.

WHAT IS AN ESC?
The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is an initiative of the European Union that offers the possibility to EU citizens, from 18 to 30 years old, to carry out a period of volunteering, traineeship or job abroad in an institution or organisation. The maximum duration of each project is 12 months, but it is possible to participate in a "short term" project (<60 days) and then in a "long term" project, with a maximum overall duration of 14 months.
ESC projects cover travel (with limited budget), food, accommodation, activities, and mentoring costs. Each volunteer also receives monthly a financial support that changes according to the country of destination (pocket money). A health insurance (Henner) is also provided.
